Choosing the Right Practice/Doctor for Periodontal Dental Implant Therapy and Related Bone Reconstruction Surgery.

Periodontal, Dental Implant and Bone Reconstruction Surgery involves many decisions. The most important: Choosing the right doctor. Not every doctor is uniquely qualified and less than 5% of the licensed dentists in this country are recognized specialists in Periodontology. Do not be fooled with today’s misleading advertising with the training qualifications of your dental surgeon. Specialty certification are not weekend classes that provide unrecognized credentialing at the end of course, but are rigorous residency training programs that are recognized, accredited by the American Dental Association as true specialty training.

Post graduate specialty training in Periodontology is highly competitive, intense and selective, with most programs only offering 2-3 slots/year and the residency training lasting 3 years (after 4 years of dental school). To achieve board certification by the American Board of Periodontology (ABP), a doctor must have at least 3 years of specialty training beyond dental school and he/she must pass intensive written and oral exams. Board certification is also an ongoing process requiring re-certification every few years.

We have not only passed these exams and achieved board certification, but have been invited as examiners in Part II of the certification process. The doctors at Periodontal Medicine and Surgical Specialists, LTD, have received numerous accolades and widespread recognition as leading experts in the field of Periodontics and Dental Implantology.
