3-Dimensional CBCT Imaging

At the heart of Periodontal Medicine and Surgical Specialists LTD is an unmatched, demonstrable commitment to quality. One of the best examples of this is our Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) Imaging and SimPlant® Master Conversion Center. CBCT images (also called “volumes”) are 3D X-rays which help to understand regional anatomy more precisely than any other imaging modality (such as traditional dental X-rays). The 3D scans are digital, so they may be manipulated and viewed from any angle. We are able to zoom in and focus on a specific aspect, such as the root of a tooth, to obtain detailed information. This enables them to deeply understand a patient’s unique anatomy for a precise diagnosis and the development of an individualized treatment plan.

The development, evolution and growth of CT technology have been a part of the practice’s culture for decades, with Periodontal Medicine & Surgical Specialists, LTD playing a lead role in incorporating CT scans for diagnosis and treatment planning. The practice has set educational and professional standards for the use of CT scans in diagnostics, surgical treatment planning, computer-guided implant placement and determination of predictable patient outcomes.

The practice is one of the first in the country to install the Carestream Dental CS 9300, a unique system that can provide high-quality 3D images with reduced radiation exposure. All CBCT scans are taken at our CBCT Imaging Center by a licensed radiology technologist and the center’s co-director, Mr. Richard Falls, RT (R) (CT). Mr. Falls over see’s all imaging for quality assurance and optimal diagnostics. In addition, all CBCT volumes are read by one of the nation’s leading Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologists, Dr. Christos Angelopoulos. This partnership transcends typical interdisciplinary dentistry and helps to ensure that patients are evaluated with as much oversight as possible, so that a complete diagnosis and personalized treatment plan can be made.
